Myositis, Yoga and Education

My name is Dana Dmitrich and Yoga found me 8 years ago and since then we have had a healthy and intimate relationship.  Yoga filled avoid physically, emotionally, and spiritually to the point where I couldn’t wait to roll out my mat or read and study more about it.  I had to know what was it that was changing me from the “inside, out.”

What actually brought us together was a diagnosis of a muscle disease, Myositis.  And to think that now my muscle mass is the highest it’s ever been and my disease has been manageable.

My relationship with my body, myself and others, not to mention the world in general has improved and continues to improve.  What’s great is Yoga also slows the aging process as “You are only as young as your spine is flexible.”  I am now 50 years old and have been teaching for the last year as I want to share how Yoga has mentored me.  And, my favorite teacher, Santosh Maknikar has inspired me and fed me great Yoga and philosophy, I am forever grateful.
Everytime I roll out my mat, I lay my vulnerabilities, fear, and doubts down.  When I roll up that mat, my tears, sweat, confidence, aspirations, and accomplishments are carried close to my heart and soul.  How great is it to have a love affair with yourself and Yoga!

Currently, I am sponsoring a student in India through Project Santosha.  I felt this non-profit agency compared to others, resonated with my core values and by uniting the practice of Yoga and Education would create a shift in humanity.  I believe that this model of Yoga and Education will enhance the future of our children in the United States.  We have to start somewhere and Project Sanosha is bridging the east with the west.
